Accutane

Isotretintoin

Treat severe acne with FDA-approved isotretinoin (Accutane), a powerful oral medication taken to clear up your skin.

Isotretinoin is an oral retinoid medication that treats severe acne by targeting multiple factors that cause breakouts. It significantly reduces sebum (oil) production, prevents clogged pores, decreases inflammation, and directly shrinks oil glands. It is especially effective for nodular or cystic acne that has not responded to other treatments.
Isotretinoin is recommended for individuals with severe or scarring acne that has been resistant to topical treatments and oral antibiotics. It is particularly suitable for those who experience psychological or social distress due to their acne. Pregnant women or those planning to become pregnant are not eligible due to the risk of severe birth defects.
A standard course of Isotretinoin lasts 4–6 months, depending on the dose prescribed and the severity of the acne. Some individuals may require a second course after several months if acne returns, but most experience long-term remission after one treatment.

Accutane (isotretinoin) is a powerful prescription medication used to treat severe acne that hasn’t responded to other treatments. It is not intended for use in children or during pregnancy. Pregnant women must not take or handle isotretinoin due to the high risk of serious birth defects. Routine blood work and strict contraceptive measures are required during treatment. How DermOnDemand Works

Common Question

Dryness of the skin, lips, and eyes are the most common side effects. Others may include muscle aches, sensitivity to the sun, and temporary hair thinning. More serious but rare side effects include elevated cholesterol levels, liver enzyme changes, or mood disturbances, all of which are monitored during treatment.
For many individuals, Isotretinoin results in long-term remission of acne, with permanent improvement in skin condition. However, a small percentage of patients may experience recurrence and require additional treatment.
Isotretinoin is highly teratogenic, meaning it can cause severe birth defects if taken during pregnancy. For this reason, women of childbearing potential must use two forms of contraception and undergo monthly pregnancy tests throughout the course of treatment.
